My first stop on the journey of life was to become a star. I made my living at stand-up comedy touring colleges and universities all over the US. I liked it but I did not love it. I missed home and I was making a living, but barely. I was a Drama and Spanish major at UC Irvine, so, my options were slim. I guess with Drama and Spanish I could be in Telenovela but I when I speak Spanish I sound a lot like a valley girl.

So, I moved on to real estate. Not a lot of risk - pass a multiple choice test, get some signs and business cards and BAM! You are a realtor. I love people and feel strongly about The "Home " concept so it was a product I was passionate about. I got my first taste of design as I would help my clients get their homes ready for sale and from flipping a few homes myself.

Life really took a turn when I found my dream home - a beat up 50's post-and-beam and I took a lot of time and lovingly restored it. It was a stressful time, I was overseeing the project and working full-time, but the entire process invigorated me. This is when I realized that my true passion was directly under my nose. It hit me like a ton of ceramic decorative italian pavers(bricks), I wanted to be an interior designer . I phased my time out of real estate and into an Architecture and Design Program at UCLA. I had the designer's eye, but the school gave me the skills to realize the vision.

Now I am doing what I am absolutely passionate about, and all of these stops on the way have really paid off. With the comedy background I am able to laugh and find the humor in stressful situations, and with Real Estate experience I am able to help my clients remodel to make their quality of life better while keeping in mind the idea of creating more value when they go to sell their home. I have no regrets about my detours on the path of life, and doubt you'll regret hiring Modern Nest to help in your next interior design project.
